What does publishing a magazine have in common with running a restaurant? Both are tough businesses highly vulnerable to disaster. Restaurants and publications regularly fold, so making it to a milestone like a fifth birthday is a reason to celebrate. When we launched this magazine five years ago, knowing the perils of publishing, we hoped we’d make it this far, but there were no guarantees. Success is harder than ever to define and achieve. That’s why we’re so inspired by the local food leaders who have stood the test of time, whether they share our birthday or not. But to celebrate the fifth anniversary of our very first issue of Edible Philly, we’re clinking glasses with a few of our favorite local restaurants that are turning five right along with us this year. With a look back to 2013, three restaurateurs share some of the wisdom they’ve earned this past half-decade.
