the Italian Maket Festival in Philadelphia

Every spring, locals come out of hibernation to enjoy the city's vibrant food scene under the warm sunshine. Although April featured crowd favorites like the Manayunk StrEAT Festival and Flavors on the Ave, May is packed with exciting events starting with both the Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival and South Street Fest on May 6.

The most highly anticipated block party of the season is the Italian Market Festival on May 20–21. Recently ranked #6 in USA Today's “10 Best Specialty Food Festivals,” this festival is a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in authentic Italian cuisine.

During the festival, seven contiguous city blocks are closed off to showcase the over 200 businesses in the Italian Market. This food lovers’ paradise features the best of the area's restaurants, butchers, and bakeries. One standout treat is the ice-cold piña colada (served with or without alcohol), piled high in a hollowed-out pineapple.

When you've had your fill of food, there are plenty of other activities to enjoy, including live music on Washington Ave, greased pole contests at Montrose Piazza, and the newest addition: the Cornhole at the Festival Tournament at 916 Christian Street.
