Spotlight: Southeast Asian Market at FDR Park
The Southeast Asian Market at FDR Park is about more than the food. Back in 2021, the market hosted a rally against anti-Asian hate. It’s been home to back-to-school-supply giveaways and bilingual voter registration drives, too. The community support found at the market almost overshadows the Southeast Asian street food found in abundance here. You’ll find tongue-searing papaya salad, smoky grilled saté, sweet sesame seed balls, and freshly pressed sugarcane juice. The market also offers plants, clothing, and jewelry.
With its expansive layout, there’s always something new to explore, so you’ll want to return again and again. To make the most of your visit, bring cash—not all vendors accept cards—and pack a picnic blanket to relax in the park’s green spaces. If you haven’t visited this season, head there soon, before the season ends in October.
