Recipes from the Paw Paw Patch

Join the Philadelphia Orchard Project and chef Ari Miller for a collaborative approach to using the season’s harvests of paw paw, or Asimina triloba, a mango-sized fruit indigenous to North America. Much of the paw paw tree’s native habitat has been destroyed by development; all the while, there continues to be widespread recognition of the paw paw patch in indigenous and folk traditions. Through initiatives such as community orchards supported by the Philadelphia Orchard Project, you can find these delicate, fragrant fruits available in late summer in and around Philadelphia. Chef Ari will work with participants on several recipes featuring the creamy custard-like flesh of the paw paw fruit. Come out and learn more about this special seasonal treat.
