THE FOOD LIFE
Tasting Philadelphia
Author Carrie Havranek highlights dishes from restaurants, diners, cafés and inns across the state in her new book, Tasting Pennsylvania (Farcountry Press, 2019). The 108 recipes run the gamut, Havranek says. “There’s a lot from James Beard nominated chefs, but also hole-in-the-wall places from the wilds of Pennsylvania.” You’ll also find recipes for Ralph’s meatballs and Penn State’s famous ice cream. After her exploration of our state’s deep food traditions and new-school chef-farm partnerships, Havranek thinks of Pennsylvania as “The California of the East Coast.”
