Sweet Amalia’s Market and Kitchen in Newfield, NJ
Shellfish isn’t the only draw at the new Sweet Amalia’s Market and Kitchen in Newfield, NJ. Chef Melissa McGrath’s menu showcases owner Lisa Calvo’s beloved oysters — raw, baked, fried, and on a roll — but the sandwich menu warrants a visit, too. McGrath, formerly of Pub and Kitchen and the Diving Horse in Avalon, spent part of the pandemic opening San Francisco’s Palm City Wines, where her hearty takeout-friendly hoagies generated a ton of buzz. At Sweet Amalia, she’s offering the same Italian and roast pork versions on Sarcone’s seeded rolls, plus seasonal variations. Picnic tables are available for onsite dining.
