At Francesca Galarus and Nicholas Ducos’s new Mural City Cellars winery in Kensington, grapes from vineyards within 300 miles of Philadelphia are turned into affordable reds, whites, and rosés. A Community- Supported Winery (CSW) is an integral part of the business model. Members pay $225 upfront to receive two bottles a month for six months, plus discounts, perks and special events, and 15% of the CSW membership fees are set aside for local nonprofits. The winery has already made a $3,000 donation to the East Kensington Neighbors Association, which was used to purchase items like lawnmowers and park benches.
