Center City recently gained a new destination for stocking up on organic food: MOM’s Organic Market. The Maryland-based chain opened its 16,000-square-foot store just off Market on 11th Street this September.

MOM’s upholds strict environmental standards and prioritizes customer service. The produce section is stocked with only certified organic fruits and vegetables—yellow Signs designate what’s locally grown. A sustainable-protein section offers a lineup of bug-powered snacks like mealworm protein powder and roasted crickets. (Store manager Jen Weigel says kids love them!) Grab breakfast or lunch at the prepared foods counter, Naked Lunch; fill up a growler with beer or kombucha; and don't miss the sample station—with free coffee- in the back.

Beyond food and drink, the new store has a bulk soap station—bring your own container and fill up on Sun & Earth detergent or Dr. Bronner’s. Browse through the beekeeping supplies and GOT-certified (Global Organic Textile standard) clothing selection for quality holiday gifts.

Each section offers a staggering variety and the common denominator is circumspect sourcing. “A lot of thought is put into every single product we put on our shelves,” says Weigel. Their 100-plus item list of banned ingredients includes high-fructose corn syrup, bleached flour; preservatives and flavor enhancers like MSG. “If it doesn’t meet our standards, we don’t carry it.”

Extra-wide aisles and soft music urge you to slow to a stroll while browsing the towering shelves. When you've finished shopping, let an eager employee take that heavy bag to the car.
