gelato from Float Dreamery at Castellino’sJacob Livingston, a chef, and designer Erica Knauss combine their skill sets to create Float Dreamery’s striking coconut- and oat-milk-based gelato creations that fly out of the side window of Castellino’s Italian Market every Saturday in Fishtown. Preorders typically start Tuesdays at noon and sell out soon after, but Float reserves some for walk-up pints, scoops and “frozen hoagies,” aka ice cream sandwiches. Look out for Livingston’s favorite flavor, “Honky Tonk,” a caramelized-sugar gelato base with peanut butter ribbons studded with Cracker Jack bits. Knauss is partial to “any and all mint and chocolate combinations,” with mix-ins like peppermint fluff swirls and gluten-free red velvet chunks. Last year, Float opened their spring season with a free-scoop day that attracted hundreds of gelato lovers. “We’ll be doing that again and can’t wait!” says Knauss.
