IF YOU’VE EVER read this magazine before, it’s probably obvious to you that I live for treats. I have always been a food fanatic with a never-ending list of local delicacies I want to try, but in this new pandemic era, my focus on food has risen to another level.

Baked goods and chocolate are especially important to overall quality of life these days, and in Philadelphia, we are very lucky to have a lot of the good stuff. Cocoa enthusiasts will want to turn directly to page 12 for Estelle Tracy’s authoritative article, A Modern Chocolate Lover’s Guide to Philadelphia. If your tastes run more toward cakes and brownies, check out DM to Order on page 24 for Regan Stephen’s rundown of bakeries doing business on Instagram.

You could spend a lifetime exploring the food scene right here in Philadelphia, but increasingly people are ready to travel again. If you want a getaway that’s close enough for a day trip (but appealing enough to make a weekend of it, too), don’t miss our Road Trip: Lancaster guide starting on page 34.

Finally, I have to take a minute to say thank you to Samantha Bednarek, Edible Philly’s genius art director for the past five years. This is her last issue with us before she moves on to her next opportunity. I could write 10,000 words about all the ways Sam’s made me a better editor, everything she’s taught me, and how much I’m going to miss working with her on this magazine, but I’ve got just a paragraph here.

Sam: Thank you for everything. You are the best.

Until next time,
Joy Manning
