2017 Pocono Garlic Growers Press Release

Shawnee on the Delaware, PA – The 23rd Annual Pocono Garlic Festival is the best little garlic festival, hands down, featuring garl-tastic foods, continuous live local entertainment, artist demonstrations & strolling musicians.

There is family fun for everyone with an expanded educational tent, garlic-growing seminars, a children’s activity area, hands on wildlife exhibition and a petting zoo. The festival is featuring an assortment of regional artisans, crafters selling garlic wares and specialty garlic food items. And yes, fresh garlic galore!

An annual event held always on Labor Day Weekend the festival will take place on September 2 & 3, 2017. Located at Shawnee Mountain Ski Area this  homegrown favorite offers a sampling of the region's garlic farmers and has been known to be referred to by attendees as the best lil’ garlic festival in the world.

Farm fresh garlic goodness is featured at every stand within the festival which  is truly all about the locally grown hard neck garlic. A varietal of family farms providing garlic and produce for the festival including Knob View Farm, the Josie Porter Farm, Rolling Hills Farm, Apple Ridge Farms, Ebb and Flow Farm & Mountaindale Farms

Over fifty vendors will provide a wide range  dishes from simple to sophisticated, geared for the “foodie” with discerning taste buds. The 2017 Pocono Garlic Festival is a platform to showcase the area’s most pungent garlic and finest eateries, with no two alike. This year's tasting will include everything from the very predictable garlic inspired Italian dishes such as bruschetta, meatballs on a stick and shrimp scampi, to richly garlic near east dishes represented by shish kabob, falafels and stuffed grape leaves. Hand made kielbasa pierogi and garlic-on site made pizza are coming back for the tasting. “Garlic is so versatile that the every day dishes sparkles,” expressed, PGF Chef Dan Rothman. Other staples will be returning are corn on the cob with garlic butter, smoke BBQ sandwiches, turkey legs, chicken wings and crab cakes to name just a scrumptious few. Each vendor uses just about fifty pounds of garlic to prepare for the festival, that’s more than 3000 pounds. For the true garlic adventure there was even garlic ice cream, garlic chocolate chip cookies and even garlic laced ice slushes.

In additions to the food; patrons can stroll the grounds a  taking in the beautiful items created by local artists and crafters that exhibit on a variety of hand crafted garlic themed items  for the two-day event. Everything from home crafted wooded items to pottery to jewelry and even handcrafted soaps. Peter’s Valley Artistian are on site demoing their crafts.

Non-Stop Music includes local favorites Porter and Sales, the Juggernaut String Band, The Lost Ramblers, La Cucina and newest addition a “Jimmy Buffett Tribute” band Parrot Beach. The venue boast three outdoor stages, an children’s activity area, educational tent, cooking demonstrations and strolling acts for all to enjoy.

Don’t forget to bring plenty of mints since the weekend also features the festival fourth annual garlic eating contest. Each day ten contestants under the big tent belly up and see who can eat the most raw garlic in under a minute. A panel of judges determined who will be crowned the festival king/or queen.

Shawnee Mountain is located in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania just off Exit 309 of Interstate 80.
