Lushly growing mint plant bordering a lawn or meadow

Join Megan Haupt, food educator and anthropologist and founder of hungry for The Many Stories & Flavors of Mint as part of POP's HarvestEd series -- featuring community teachers presenting on lesser known fruits and herbs of the orchards. This presentation will cover the power of a well-told story, the effects of storytelling on the brain, why storytelling for plants is important, mint's early mythology and current interpretations of the mint story.  Group work will have participants brainstorming ways they can tell mint's story by its characteristics, healing purposes, culinary use and more. We will harvest mint together as a group and then make a mint dessert sauce to be served and enjoyed with a chocolate avocado mousse.

Bio: Founder of hungry, Megan has 20 years of storytelling experience and 15 years of education experience, helping audiences connect with shared human experiences around food and food practices. Her research focuses on food and cultural practices, food and morality, food and race, food futurism, and food history. She is a member of the PA Nutrition Education Network and the American Anthropological Association / Society for the Anthropology of Food and Nutrition and has presented on these topics at conferences, universities, and for industry professionals.
