DIY Liqueur Making Workshop - In Person!
Liqueurs are another great way to preserve your backyard or favorite farmers market fruit, and to really add your signature to a cocktail. Like Farm to Table? You'll love Farm to Glass! This is an interactive, fun, hands-on, make-n-take style class with a liberal dose of beverage lore thrown in, too! Your instructor Sarah has been making and teaching liqueur-making for 20+ years.

Here we are in summer! What seasonal liqueur flavors does July have in store for us? The perennial favorite Limoncello, along with Peach, and a more savory Tomato & Cucumber.

You'll learn 3 different techniques, and make 3 differently delicious liqueurs! You can make one or all three, but the class is definitely designed for you to work along with me.

Date: Saturday August 14th, from 4:30-6pm (PT)
Location: The German Society of Pennsylvania, 611 Spring Garden Street, Philadelphia, PA 19123 - Ratskeller Room

Please call/email Sarah if you have questions at 707-295-3590 or muddlemethiswithsarah@gmail.com (not The German Society, they are hosting us, not organizing the event. )

About Your Instructor Sarah:
Hi! I have been making and teaching liqueur-making for 20+ years. I've made liqueurs professionally for restaurants and have won multiple ribbons for them at the Alameda County Fair in California. I'm a former organic farmer & a former sommelier. For many years I worked for Fair Food Philadelphia as their Volunteer Coordinator & Co-Manager of their retail Farmstand at Reading Terminal Market. Currently I have a small urban garden and raise backyard chickens.

Materials kit to assemble prior to the class and have with you during the class:

You'll spend between $15-25 for the materials, depending on what you might already have, and how much you are making. Email me if you have questions about where to find ingredients or tools.

For One bottle of finished liqueur, here is what you need:

Ingredients:

1 - 750ml bottle of 80 Proof alcohol - mid-priced, not super expensive or cheap (suggestions to pair with the fruits below)
RIPE FRESH Fruit of your choice (either rinsed or washed) - choose either:

8 Meyer (or regular) Lemons - I suggest organic/non sprayed (use vodka)
3 cups Peaches - I suggest organic/non sprayed (use brandy or silver rum)
3 cups Tomatoes & Cucumbers (combined) - I suggest organic/non sprayed (use tequila, silver rum or gin)
Note: During the class I will suggest some spices/herbs that you can also add in, but it is not necessary for these foundation recipes, and you can add later.

12oz Simple Syrup (make your own in advance of the class!) It's super easy, just warm 1cup water and 1cup white granulated sugar together on the stove, stirring every so often until it becomes clear. No need to even boil. Make sure to let come to room temperature before using in our class.

Tools:

1/2 Gallon swing top/wide-mouth glass jar, washed for each finished liqueur (ACE Hardware & Michael's usually carry the Ball 1/2 gallon canning jars. You can also check Walmart)
Muddler or wooden spoon
Cutting board
Small paring knife
Vegetable Peeler (I recommend the OXO brand)
Saran/cling wrap
3x5 card & pen
Apron

Your questions!

We'll also discuss ‘aftercare’ for your liqueurs & other simple equipment you'll need later on, as well as all the great drinks (and more) you can make with your finished liqueurs!
