Homegrown Holidays
You know it’s fall in Philadelphia when farmers’ markets brim with apples and greens, soups simmer away on the stove, and cookie tins come out of storage. This issue celebrates those simple rituals and traditions.
Before your schedule gets too crazy, circle November 2nd on your calendar. The Good Food Fest returns, putting local growers, makers, and community on center stage. It’s one of the best ways to stock your pantry, meet the people behind your favorite ingredients, and support the regional food economy heading into the holidays.
This issue also ventures across state lines if you need a little fall getaway inspo. Alisha Miranda’s “Philadelphia’s Sister Wine City” explores the Finger Lakes. It’s close enough for a weekend, and rich enough in growers and winemakers to influence how people drink wine here at home. Then Hannah Howard shares tips and recipes for spirited cookie swap that proves festive flavor is even sweeter when it’s shared. And because fall is apple season, we spend time at Bauman’s for a farm profile and recipes that put apple butter and cider to work from breakfast to dessert.
As you make your lists, don’t miss our Local Gift Guide. It’s packed with edible treats, kitchen tools, and small-batch finds that keep your dollars close to home and your gifting personal. Whether you’re roasting, toasting, swapping, or simply slowing down with a mug of something warm, I hope these pages help you savor what our region grows and makes—and spark a few new traditions at your table.

Tis the Season
Even though I love summer, I felt like the warm weather lasted just a little too long this year. I know I’m ready to grab a blanket and settle in with the flavors and scents of apple and cinnamon, stay in to cook and bake, and gather with friends and family. I am already thinking about which new experiences and local goodies I can gift to my loved ones this year – luckily our local gift guide has something for everyone!
As Joy mentioned, the Good Food Fest is back and is a great event for the whole family (and a great time to start your holiday shopping!)
For the first time in a long time, we’re co-hosting a Holiday Bazaar with our friends at Central Stem at The Highlands in Fort Washington on Saturday, December 6th. You’ll definitely want to mark your calendar for this curated shopping experience.
And don’t forget that a subscription to Edible Philly also makes a great gift for those near and far.
Here’s to the holiday season!
