A Christmas Carol Feast
Awbury Arboretum presents a new supper club, Eating Antiquity: Delicious Meals from Historical Recipes, co-hosted by local chef and food history buff, Claire Phelan. The food is free, the supper club experience is not. All proceeds go to benefit Awbury Arboretum.
$40 per person for 5 historical courses
This event is limited to 20 seats, takes place at the Francis Cope House (1 Awbury Rd, Phila, PA) and is BYOB.
Join your neighbors for a festive banquet inspired by the sumptuous holiday dishes detailed in Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Relive the warmth and good cheer of Fezziwig’s holiday dance with his thickly-sliced, herb-rubbed Cold Roast- and bring cold beer to wash it down. Luxuriate in the Ghost of Christmas Present’s bounty, from “cherry-cheeked apples and luscious pears” to candied exotic fruits and nuts. Finally sample The Cratchit family’s tender roast goose stuffed with sage and onion, and drizzled in Mrs. Crachit’s “hissing hot gravy” – and more!
All recipes used date from the mid-1800s.
